Cassette Mythos Online

I have a number of artifacts centering around Robin James’ Cassette Mythos project. It was one of my early introductions to underground home recording and Robin was one of the few people to come through Salt Lake City and visit me. There were two encounters, both brief stops on his way to destinations across the U.S.

Cassette Mythos appeared online in the early 2000’s, serving to document the book and expand on it. It moved from host to host and I happened to discover by chance one morning that it’s once again homeless, currently lodged on the Wayback archive.

The audio from the project can be found at WFMU’s free audio archive.

At one point, Robin writes that the cassettemythos.com domain had mistakenly passed into other hands and was for sale, presumably beyond his will or means to procure it. This was over ten years ago. On 2 April 2023 I looked and it was available, so it’s now back in friendly hands.

My plan is to gauge interest in reviving it and continuing the work Robin was doing there. For now, the domain simply points to the exhibit here on the Underground Music Museum.

I believe in finding the innate truth behind the music, and bringing that forward. I listened to the feeling and rhythm, letting the tempo become ingrained on my soul. And then I sped it all up twice as fast and sang about dicks.Matthew Lee aka Sausage Boy
