Cleaners From Venus – On Any Normal Monday/In the Golden Autumn/Midnight Cleaners (Cassette, 1990)

No.4537

GAJOOB Review by Bryan Baker, 4/1/1991:

CLEANERS Martin Newell and Lawrence Elliott offer up a consistently outstanding pop sensibility throughout these tapes. Characteristic chorused melodic guitar lines effortlessly propel the arrangements that are very full notwithstanding the homemade 4-track medium that they use. These sound great and acoustic drums really add a lot to the life of most any rock song, especially when the drummer is as talented as this. THE CLEANERS have been around the independent cassette scene for a long time, and if you haven’t heard ’em yet, I strongly urge you to do so. Homemade pop rock just doesn’t get any better than this.

Media: Cassette.

i was trying to present it as layers of skin being peeled away to get to the next section, with the glockenspiel over bryan’s piano loop, which was like the true inner self. and i kept thinking about michael jackson throughout the whole process.Jack Shite
