M.Nomized – Minimalist Part 2 (Cassette, 1997)

No.5185

GAJOOB Review by Bryan Baker, 11/9/2023:

M.Nomized’s cassette release “Minimalist Part 2” is a remarkable exploration of minimalism, punctuated with an avant-garde flair. Released in 1997, this work has stood the test of time.

Side A of “Minimalist Part 2” features four predominantly piano-based pieces. The pieces are introspective and meditative, inviting the listener into a contemplative space where each section resonates with profound depth.

Side B, titled “Logic Music,” presents a different facet of M.Nomized’s creativity. It is an intriguing blend of mallet-struck instruments, punctuated with organ in a syncopated serial style. The melodic lines are complex yet accessible, weaving in and out of each other in a mesmerizing dance. The use of mallet-struck instruments adds a unique texture to the music, providing a refreshing contrast to the piano-centric Side A.

The overall result is a captivating sonic experience that is both dreamlike and unique. M.Nomized’s approach to minimalism is not about stripping music down to its bare essentials but rather about exploring the immense possibilities within a limited sonic palette. Each track on “Minimalist Part 2” is a masterclass in subtlety and restraint, demonstrating the power of less is more.
