The Evolution Control Committee – Buddha Bleach: The Music That’s Karma Clean (1990 Cassette)

Cassette #4169

GAJOOB Review

A very varied release with a hard to describe style: mock commercials, educational songs for adults, hip-hoppy dance songs, a belly dancing version of a Black Sabbath song… and that’s just the first side! Mark Gunderson is the Committee and is best at collage — music and found texts. I especially liked a piece which has a rabidly patriotic speaker soapboxing as if his life depended upon it while some demented guitar strumming threatens to overtake him. Many cassette-based artists delve into this sort of thing, but few pull it off as well Evolution Control Committee. Highly recommended. – Bryan Baker, GAJOOB #8

From the first moments, listeners are enveloped in a muffled blanket of magnesium oxide, where random audio snippets—voices, sounds, mechanical clicks, and clacks of Walkmans—create a collage that feels both familiar and disorientingly novel.gajoobzine.com/albums/x1-the-art-of-k7-vol-2/
