Totentanz (cassette, 1989)

GAJOOB Review by Bryan Baker:

Totentanz is a death core cassette by William Lengeman III and an uncredited female co-conspirator. DiY, self-made angst.

Lengeman’s poetry is striking, as in I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU: “

In a dream I watched you dying Color fading from your face
Hold you in my trembling arms
Such a cold and empty space
I will never leave you
I will never let you go
I will live in you forever
Til my blood no longer flows
Lips were moving gently
Voice refused to come
Knelt beside you all the night
Knowing nothing could be done
I awoke and called your name
In my empty room so bare
Waited for the dead response
Of one who was not there

This is coupled with raw, overdriven guitars, basic drum kit and emotion.

I believe Lengeman was later an author of several books, including Sweet Jane and the Metal Machine: Exploring the Music of Lou Reed.

Media: cassette.
