Call for Submissions: SOUNDART COMPILATION

Re:natura Compilation #04 – Æther

The prestigious annual re:natura sound compilation is once again opening its doors to innovative and thought-provoking submissions. This year, we are delighted to announce the theme for our fourth edition: Æther. With this theme, re:natura #04 invites artists and creators to explore and reinterpret the essence of air, a crucial yet often overlooked element of our biosphere and a vital physical medium.

Theme Exploration: Air surrounds us, fills us, and connects us to the myriad forms of life that share our planet. From the tiniest microorganisms to the majestic birds of the sky, from the delicate fungi to the roaming flying fish, the air is teeming with life and activity. But beyond its biological significance, air acts as a carrier—transporting gases, regulating temperature and humidity, conveying sound, electromagnetic waves, and the spectrum of visible light. This year’s theme encourages participants to engage with air as a bridge between nature and culture, an ethereal domain where the audible is intimately intertwined with the environmental.

Who Should Apply? We call upon sound artists, poets, experimental musicians, and radiophonic sound designers to submit their works. Whether your approach is associative, descriptive, or analytical, we invite you to share your unique perspectives on how the environment transports all things audible. Creativity, innovation, and a deep connection to the theme of air are the guiding principles for this compilation.

Inspiration Sources: To aid in your creative process, we have curated a selection of inspirational sources which can be accessed through our Submission Form and our Instagram Feed. These resources are designed to spark ideas and foster a deeper engagement with the theme.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Deadline: All submissions must be received by Sunday, June 30, 2024.
  • We welcome contributions from a wide array of disciplines within the sound and audio arts.
  • Submissions can range from soundscapes and musical compositions to spoken word and audio essays.
  • Creativity and a strong thematic connection to Æther are paramount.

Looking Forward: The re:natura compilations have always stood as a testament to the creative possibilities that emerge when artists engage deeply with the natural world. By focusing on air, we hope to illuminate the invisible threads that connect us, inspire reflections on the intangible, and celebrate the profound interplay between sound and the environment.

We eagerly await your submissions and are excited to see how you will interpret the boundless, breath-filled theme of Æther. Join us in crafting an auditory homage to the air that envelops and sustains us, in all its unseen majesty.
