Description
Trash was written and recorded by Briyan Frederick in 2024 for an upcoming album on Blind Mime Records. It uses samples by permission from the album Trash Milagro by Hal McGee & Rafael González, a recent installment in Hal’s “dictaphone audio folk art assemblages” series.
I put the source audio into my EP-133 K.O. II sample composer, composing the melody using a snippet of a mono synth found on the album. I created several patterns from a range of 48 sounds culled from Hal and Rafael’s work, ranging from their voices, Hal’s dog and random neighbors in conversation; and also a beautiful slew of sounds made from either playing with assorted instruments to happenstance klonks and clinks.
After making a bunch of patterns, I played the KO2, improvising a 6-minute track and brought that into Logic Pro and added cello, bass and other things to support chaotic fun.
